Filippos Farmakis

Dr Filippos Farmakis received his B.S. degree in Physics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1996, the MSc degree in Optics, Optoelectronics and Microwaves from National Polytechnic School of Grenoble, France, in 1997 and his PhD from the same School in 2000.

His dissertation was on the electrical and noise characterization as well as reliability aspects in polycrystalline silicon thin-film transistors.

After earning the PhD degree, he joined UNAXIS SA, Palaiseau, France as Process Engineer and later as R&D Team Leader where he worked on thin film deposition on PECVD production systems for the display industry.

In 2006 he pursued his research on chemical sensing field-effects devices and thin film transistors with IMEL, NCSR Demokritos, Athens, Greece, after receiving a grant from a project co-financed with the European Union.

In 2008, he was employed as the Head of Technology at Heliosphera SA, a Greek company producing thin film photovoltaic modules in a 60MW manufacturing line.

From January 2012, he is Lecturer and from July 2015 Assistant Professor at Democritus University of Thrace, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in Xanthi.

He is the author and co-author of more than 50 scientific papers in refereed international journals and conferences.

He specializes in:

  • Solar cell technology
  • Thin films
  • Lithium- ion battery cells
